EMPHATICALLY PIXELATED

One of my students used this turn of phrase and its poetry immediately caught my attention. I think it’s fitting that this vocal/verbal imagery be used to describe sound as well. In my mind, “Emphatically Pixelated” would be an electronic dance band.

YES TO BANANAS!

There’s only one way to respond when asked if you want bananas in your smoothie. And that’s how Yes To Bananas! was born. Because of the monkey/Monkee connection, I’m envisioning YTB! as a fun, pop group akin to Fountains of Wayne.

YOUR PATINA SOUL

Inspired by some creative thinking exercises and a stack of pennies, a student said this while describing the thoughts of another classmate. A poetic image, I’d like to think that Your Patina Soul would be a little like Nickelback but a LOT less annoying.

I EAT FALAFEL OFTEN

How much fun is this to say?!

Say it a few times. Next time, you order falafel I challenge you not to think of “I Eat Falafel Often”.

I think I.E.F.O. would be a one-hit wonder with a pop single and fade into history only to be revived as an obscure trivia answer.

THE LAZY BAKERS

When my hometown’s baker didn’t have our order ready on time and he showed up with crumpled clothes and disheveled hair, he became known as the “lazy baker”.

The band of the same name would be three brothers (the Bakers) in their late 30s/early 40s playing bluegrass who’ve come to a career in music later in life.

EFFING JEFFERSON

Overheard in reference to President Jefferson whose inescapable presence in Charlottesville, VA has made the town architecturally one-note. (However, still charming.)

“Effing Jefferson” would be a hard rock band with some intellectual humor in their lyrics.

MEMORY PALACE

Apparently, Wikipedia rabbit holes are good for discovering new band names: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Method_of_loci

The method of loci (plural of Latin locus for place or location), also called the memory palace, is a mnemonic device introduced in ancient Roman rhetorical treatises
